Shipping Hand Trucks... Shipping a hand truck anywhere in the United States is one of the most expensive items to ship. It doesn't matter if you use FEDEX, UPS or a freight company. Shipping companies have found their way into your pocket digging for every last dollar you have. Don't try to measure the hand truck by it's dimensions for shipping purposes... it doesn't matter. The will do it for you... and measure the hand truck via their dimensional size. This "dimensional size" will always result in an "OS" (Over-sized surcharge) charge. Usually resulting in a $50 + charge on top of the original charge. Then there is a "fuel surcharge" and god forbid you are trying to deliver to a remote location... then you better take out a line of credit against your home. It gets better. The "lift gate"... the ultimate bend you over charge. So you pay to have the driver deliver the hand truck to your home or business. Well get ready to have to pay the driver to deliver your hand truck via a lift gate which allows the driver to deliver your hand truck off the truck on a platform where the driver pushed a button and lowers the hand truck to the ground. Didn't you already pay the freight company to deliver the hand truck? Nope! This is one way freight companies scam! Is it your responsibility to get the hand truck off the truck? No! It's still on the truck and not delivered! Imagine ordering furniture and the delivery guy shows up and says your furniture is here.. you need to take it off the truck or I can do it for $75. Seriously? Pissed of yet? Well here is another scam by freight companies. Don't even try to deliver anything to a school, church or military property via a freight carrier. Here comes the "limited access" charges. Ranging from $50-$100. Yep, that's on top of your regular delivery fees. So you're $200 hand truck ends up being..get ready...$50+ for limited access, oh you need a lift gate $75+...$325! Hope you have deep pockets to feed the freight companies pockets. Food for thought. Hand Trucks R Us has been selling hand trucks for more then thirteen years and have battled these charges as long. It's sad that doing business and commerce requiring shipping in this country is so expensive and almost impossible for a small business to thrive. Unless your business has huge volume like Walmart and Amazon (they own UPS not literally but might as well) small businesses that require shipping their products are all put done. Sad but so true.
